What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the cognitive model of psychopathology. What does that mean? It means that according to Aaron Beck that our behaviors, emotions, and overall body responses are based on our view of certain events that have happened at one time or another. The situations themselves do not necessarily affect how we react, but our perception of the event. That being said, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short-term form of behavioral treatment. It helps people problem-solve. CBT also reveals the relationship between beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, and the behaviors that follow.
